How Do RFID Key Cards Work

RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is the technology behind key cards. It operates on a simple but impactful principle of wireless data transmission. A RFID key card contains embedded circuits that store data. Whenever the card is brought into proximity with a RFID reader, the reader emits a specific frequency of radio waves. These radio waves power up the card and enable it to transmit the data it holds back to the reader. This interactive process happens almost instantaneously, thereby unlocking the door or granting access to the cardholder.
